Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
